murakumo Node — for 3D, CAD and game development

The data under NDA never leaves the building.

Subcontracted CAD drawings and game assets are usually the client's confidential material, and the contract often forbids putting them through a cloud AI at all. murakumo Node is an on-prem inference PC. The data stays in the box.

The 3D and CAD conversion and inspection engines that run on it are Apache-2.0, and free. No seats, no royalties.

The box ships inside Japan only. The software does not — it is public and carries no country restriction, so you can run all of it before you buy anything.

    The price lands under JPY 100,000, which is commonly expensed in full in the year of purchase. There is no plan to draft and no certification to wait for, the way there is for the multi-million-yen schemes.

    The conversion and inspection engines are published under Apache-2.0 with a patent grant, so there are no seats and no royalties. You do not buy it and then try it — you try it and then buy it.

When the data in front of you cannot go to the cloud

The client's material is contractually barred from leaving

Subcontracted 3D and CAD work where the inputs and deliverables are covered by an NDA. Not "we would rather not upload it" — the contract says you may not.

You are paying seats for the interchange layer

Reading STEP, IGES, DXF, IFC, USD, glTF and Alembic is where commercial kernel seats and royalties accumulate. The engines here are Apache-2.0 with a patent grant: no seats, no royalties.

A program processes the geometry, not a person

Quote automation, configurators, acceptance checks on delivered data, build pipelines. You need something that runs on a server, not a desktop seat.

You want to try it without an approval

The software is free and public, so it costs an afternoon rather than a purchase order. The box is JPY 99,900 tax-in. Neither half stalls on procurement.

The software is free, and measured

What follows is the actual output of the behaviour checks. The numbers are not rounded. Lines marked ⚠ are what is missing — they are kept in the same table rather than deleted from the sales copy. Every claim is tied to a test in a public repository.

Terminal output from four checks: cam-collision-check reporting 0.00000 gouge, and 319 colliding points for the holder alone against a wall; mcad-sheet-metal agreeing with the textbook formula to 1e-9; interop-step-ap242 reading 72 entities; sculpt-texture-paint returning an exact match on the inverse UV mapping. Each also prints its unimplemented items as ⚠.
Real output. The numbers are unrounded. The ⚠ lines are what is missing.

The numbers on this page are not projections. Below is the terminal output of four of these checks, run as they are, unrounded.

The lines marked ⚠ are the things that do not exist yet. They are printed by the same run, in the same output, on purpose.

STEP AP242, with PMI

Declares the AP242 schema and recognises the profile again on read. 72 entities. Unsupported entities are reported by name, so the receiving side can read what was dropped.

A documented subset, not full conformance. We do not say "AP242 support" in one breath.

IFC (SPF read and write)

:interop/ifc-spf

2,464 bytes of SPF. Generates native entities and an extruded solid, and the round trip is checked to preserve them.

Tool and holder collision, and gouge checking

:cam/collision-check

A flat plate passes (gouge 0.00000; 0.442 without subdivision). Against a wall it reports the tip still inside tolerance while the holder alone collides at 319 points — separated, not merged into one verdict. A 5 mm slot is caught on the shank.

Fixtures, clamps, the machine envelope and un-removed stock are not modelled. We do not take machining work on this.

Sheet metal bending and unfolding

Bend allowance, outside setback and bend deduction agree with the textbook formulas to 1e-9. The flat length is confirmed by two independent derivations — the deduction formula and a neutral-line traversal. K-factor can be recovered from a measured blank (0.44), so it can calibrate a press brake.

A part whose bends overlap gets no flat length at all — it is refused. Branching flanges, hems and springback compensation are not implemented.

Alembic (what is inside a .abc)

Object nesting and schema names, and now the points themselves — /.geom/P as a float32 array of extent 3, from constant and animated samples alike.

String, wstring and float16 samples are refused — the decoders were not transcribed, and a guessed number is indistinguishable from a right one at the call site. Schema interpretation and time sampling are not implemented.

3D texture paint and PBR layers

The UV inverse is exact. Brush coverage agrees with πr² to 0.2% at r=0.3. Layers do not commute. Across a seam, a bilinear sample outside the island reads [0 0 0] before dilation and [1 1 1] after.

Projection paint, tri-planar, stencils and brush textures are not implemented. This does not replace Substance 3D Painter.

JPY 99,900 tax-in. The usual line for acquisition cost is under JPY 100,000.

Under the ordinary treatment of low-value depreciable assets (Order Art. 133), the full amount in the year of purchase. Whether it applies depends on your accounting basis (tax-inclusive or exclusive) and on the asset having actually been placed in service.

Can I use the software without buying the box?

Yes. It is Apache-2.0 and public, so purchase is not a condition. The box is sold as somewhere to run it when the data cannot leave.

How fast is inference?

We do not print inference speeds we have not measured, and we do not publish unreleased benchmarks. If your workload is defined we can measure it on the machine and send you the result — what we will not do is print a number before measuring it.

Does this replace Blender or Maya?

No. What is here is not an application a person operates; it is a set of conversion, inspection and geometry libraries called from a program. It is for the people building the pipeline.

Is there a configuration with more memory?

Not on this page, because we will not print configurations, prices or lead times we have not confirmed. Write to support@murakumo.cloud with the requirement.

Stock and ship date?

Not printed here either. We do not place values we have not confirmed.

Can I buy it outside Japan?

Not today — the machine ships inside Japan only and checkout rejects other countries. The software has no such limit.

Is this the same as /go?
